In conversation with Dr. Kasia Jagodzinska : “Keeping and maintaining relationships in an international business environment”

Dr. Kasia Jagodzinska, Associate Professor in Management at the Geneva EMBA: “I teach the cross-cultural management course, which provides students with the basic tools and concepts needed to analyse, implement, and evaluate processes for successful management and dealmaking in international and multicultural business environments.

“The course encourages students to draw on more systematic approaches to make their communications and negotiations more effective. Students will realise why others might not be as systematic as they are, and what to do about it! The overall objective is to enhance students` ability to maximize the longevity of business relationships in an international arena.

“The course is highly practical and students will analyse concepts and work on real-life cases and examples. This hands-on approach enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The ultimate goal is to make students “future-ready” and well-prepared for a rapidly changing world, an important facet of the Geneva EMBA.

Real-life case-study: Learning from conflict

“One case study that students find particularly interesting is a real scenario of an academic who gets into a heated conflict over a surcharge on his take-away bill. The way the conflict is managed violates many standards of effective communication, understanding of inter-cultural differences and management practices.

Debunking misconceptions around management

“I’m keen to debunk the idea that management can be taught through theory alone. Management is fundamentally a human-to-human interaction: I teach that we need to understand the role of individuals before understanding teams and wider organizations.

What makes the Geneva EMBA different?

“The Geneva EMBA stands out for its hands-on approach. It challenges students to actively participate in the curriculum and to develop an open mind regarding the different scenarios they will encounter in their future careers.”
